Review: Air Shim

On a recent trip to Lowes I stumbled upon a product that seemed too good to be true. It’s called an “Air Shim” and is located in the level section.

Now, I do most of my projects by myself. I’ve gotten the hang of using traditional wooden shims, pieces of paper, scrap lumber, my foot. Heck, I’ve used just about anything as a way of propping things up so I could manipulate them. This seemed like a great concept, and for $15 I grabbed one to try it out.

I tried it out on one of my projects, How to Hang Joists By Yourself. I needed a way to adjust the height of my joists pretty accurately. This thing worked out GREAT! I just placed some scrap lumber to make up most of the space under the beam, then slid this air shim between the scraps and the joist and pumped it up. I hung 11 joists with this and it’s still going strong, no leaks, etc. I will update this post later if it bites the dust, but so far, I am very impressed! I would definitely recommend this product (and I’m not being paid to say that)
